I’ll Come Back as a Star
The sun has always been too bright.
It’s summer, you can’t wear clothes too tight.
But the man in the moon sings me lullabies.
And the stars soothe my fevered cries.
Out in the daylight my anxiousness quivers and shakes.
Convincing me to run from hell fire and earthquakes.
At night my cool pillow guides me to sleep.
In the afternoon sun, amongst the lions, I am a timid sheep.
From my bedroom window, I count off the constellations.
Though I suppose I shouldn’t hate the sun so, without its light the moon would not look so regal.
If only I were a bird, I could fly to the tip of the sky. Perhaps, a seagull.
For in the midnight clouds, I could admire my Queen from where she was meant to be seen.
When I look upon the pitch sky, I wonder why it is we’re all so afraid to die.
Because if it so happens, I leave too soon, I’ll come back as a star.
To alight the night, twinkle brightly beside the moon. What a beautiful memoir.
